Academy Awards

Ok. This will be very scrambled but oh well.

Where should I start.

It’s a shame that Shame wasn’t nominated for a single thing, but what do we expect from an academy compromised of men and women who have continuously disappointed us? It sucks that I get my hopes up for movies that have such amazing potential. Although it is just an award that’s received, being acknowledged for exceptional filmmaking would be nice for actors, actresses, directors, and countless other film crew members who put so much into creating masterpieces.

Drive, Melancholia, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Shame, Martha Marcy May Marlene, and the alleged “most underrated film of 2011” by my mother and plenty of you guys, Another Earth, should have gotten some kind of recognition.

As much as I enjoyed Bridesmaids, there is nothing exceptional or innovative about its performances or screenplay whatsoever. Melissa McCarthy is funny, but her slot for Best Supporting Actress could have been filled by so many different women.

I still haven’t seen Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs but to be honest, she doesn’t seem very great in it from the trailers or clips that I have seen.

I forgot to mention that The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was largely snubbed too.

I’m going to post my predictions as soon as I see the few films that I haven’t seen that are nominated.

Until then, I guess you can say I’m kind of upset.

PS: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close isn’t as bad as everyone says it is. Viola Davis was excellent in it, as was Sandra Bullock, who I’m usually not a fan of, and that new kid Thomas Horn. It did miss a few key points for me, but I’m not exactly sure what they are yet.
