This film would accurately be described as one that has stepped away from the recent films that have trashed the word ‘horror’ into oblivion. It capitalizes on the things you can’t see, instead of throwing blood and guts into your face and spoon feeding you the moments that are supposed to terrify you. It’s the terrifyingly simple score that gives you the chills. It’s the suspense that builds up inside of you, only leaving you to squirm in your seat and hide your face from what’s about to happen next.
Daniel Radcliffe has successfully sailed the Harry Potter ship into the sunset and does a damn good job at playing a lawyer who finds himself trapped in the confines of a dead woman that preys on children. His acting is exceptional, and is supported decently by the supporting characters.
The only let down of this film is…the woman in black. I wish we could have seen less of her. To me, seeing small glimpses of someone leaves some room for our imaginations to flourish, giving us the chance to scare ourselves.
It’s definitely worth watching, especially on a Friday or Saturday night when everyone wants to go. It’s best seen with a room full of people, that way your screams can be overshadowed by the man that’s shrieking next to you.
9/10

Thanks for posting this! I’ve been pretty dubious about going to see it, since I figured it would be disappointing.

Oooh good to hear. It looked like a non-gore fest which is always good if it manages to keep up the scares. Not much horror these days is worth watching.
