Moonrise Kingdom Review

Serving as the first Wes Anderson film that I’ve seen in theaters, Moonrise Kingdom met all of my expectations. With poignant undertones and hilarious concepts, it all comes together to form a wonderfully crafted film.

Amongst the swarm of hipsters and the few people who didn’t know what they were about to see, there was me and Chris sitting in x6a and x7a at the ArcLight theater in Hollywood. We were greeted with props from the film and two guys with a box of promotional items when we first got there. I had my eye on those from the moment I saw them. Insanely enough, we won a t-shirt and the soundtrack to the film.

During the movie, I was captivated by its simplicity. It’s nothing extreme or mind-bending, but then again, none of Anderson’s films are. But it was the way he was able to tell the story of young love, and the highs and lows that come with it, that struck a chord with me.

Overall, it’s quirky, silly, funny, and moving, and I’m ready to experience it all over again.

I’m seeing Moonrise Kingdom tonight at 12:25 at the Arclight in Hollywood cuz it’s playing at only two theaters in Los Angeles so I paid 16 dollars for a fucking movie ticket but I don’t care because they have the best caramel corn ever and the entire theater is sold out it’s going to be so much fun.

Tears of excitement.

Holy shit. The score. Those images. The seemingly innocent conversation that steadily escalates into a rhythmic verbalization of dread.

Some of you might roll your eyes at me for saying this, but I think The Master will be less Magnolia and more There Will Be Blood. This is going to be a good one, guys. But I’m sure you all already knew that.
